Europe’s littered with coins

Perhaps it’s me but Europe is starting to annoy me. It’s not because of the people or the politics of any nation (well maybe France, but that’s normal). No this is a simple and petty jealousy. Because they seems to have all the old coins found lately. It’s like the ancient coins just litter the streets.

This is all coming up because about a week or so ago I was discussing the find of 3 seven hundred year old silver pennies in the yard of an Englishman. One of the coins at least was found just sitting on the ground.

Now I see that in Amsterdam a batch of 39 gold and 70 silver coins were found that date back to the first century B.C. Just imagine that. What a huge find. And all it took was a metal detector and a spring day.

I have to say that Europe is very lucky on these things. America may have diamonds and oil and coal, and technology in huge abound. But that’s just not the same thing. Even when we can find a nice old coin it only goes back maybe 400 years of so. Certainmy bot to the first century.

It just makes coin collecting here in the US that slight bit more difficult. The advantage just that much more in favor of Europe.

It’s not about the money. It’s about opportunity. But these are the things we all have to deal with I suppose. Still it does suck.

What’s the oldest coin anyone reading this has found, in the U.S.?
